Like haircuts, eyebrow shapes aren’t one-size-fits-all. Your perfect brows depend on the dimensions of your face, and the right arches can not only enhance your eyes and make you look younger, they can even let you get away with wearing less makeup. No matter what face shape you have, there are three golden rules to follow when it comes to your brows:
- The start of the brow should begin at the corners of your nostril. This point can be found by vertically holding a pencil up to either side of your nose bone to the start of your brow.
- The arch of your eyebrows can be found by taking that same pencil, look straight into a mirror and measure from the end point of your nose diagonally through your iris and up to the brow- this is where your arch should be. Your arch should be about two-thirds of the way out from the beginning of the brow. One of the most common and biggest mistakes I see at the studio is a centered arch or an arch that somehow starts at the beginning of the brow. This gives the dreaded rainbow shape! Ick!
- Don’t make your brows too short. The tail of the brow should end on an imaginary line from using that same pencil and measuring from the corner of the nose to the corner of the eye. You can allow it to extend slightly further as long as that tail doesn’t end lower than where the brow begins -this can make the eyes look droopy. Make sure your tails always taper to a crisp point to best lift the eye.
